Quality Discus Fishes

Discus fishes, also known as the symphysodon were known since early last century. They are originally from the Amazon basin of S. America and require a moderate care level. It was in the 1930s that people tried to keep them as pets but they were greatly challenged, finding them tough to breed and maintain.

The challenge intrigued fish lovers and it wasn’t too long until they figured out the ‘mystery’ of keeping and breeding Discus fishes—and the rest is history.

Today, the Discus is among the most attractive, expensive, colorful and beautiful tropical fishes with distinctive features. They are generally peaceful in nature and should be kept with other peaceful fish pets.

They are highly social and feed on algae, small invertebrates, and other plants. They can also be trained to eat other types of food as well.

What I like most about an aquarium is that all ages, from toddlers to pre-schoolers to retired grandparents, can really enjoy the wonders of the sea.

Discus fish come in a wide range of colors, shape, and sizes. Some of them are of natural species and others are man-made species—meaning they were bred to intentionally create their unique color. Over the years, there have been many new types of Discus fish bred, creating more colorful and stunning Discus types.
